After establishing themselves as one of Zimbabwe’s leading Afro-couture brands, ByBakari is keeping a step ahead of the rest with the introduction of Homeware to its expansive catalogue.

Speaking to Mcheno And More about the development, ByBakari’s head designer, Bakari Sibanda, shared his rationale for this bold move;

“I realised that as much as most people like looking good, there’s a group of people who also want their homes to look spectacular.”

He continued;

“Print has always been a great way to add colour and pattern to just about anything and that’s we decided why not bring it to the home!”

Indeed, this new development at ByBakari will add life to bland spaces, given that they have something for each room – cushions, kitchen sets, wall art, and lampshades.

For a start, ByBakari Homeware is being designed and made on a consultation basis, so as to give each client their own unique, homely touch for their space.

Considering that these are essentially uncharted waters for the six-year old brand, Bakari Sibanda has counted on his existing clientele to help this new venture stand on its own.

“It’s been going well so far considering it’s still a new baby. We’ve worked with some clients for their custom pieces and also having inquiries here and there which shows that people are interested,” said Sibanda.

The current economic situation has put business operations in jeopardy, especially in the fashion industry; considering the contempt that the market has for homegrown brands. Some brands have closed due to this turmoil, while others are afraid to set long-term goals, but also hope for a better future for their brands.

Sibanda resonated with the hardships being faced by most in fashion, but remained hopeful of a better future for ByBakari.

“Well, with the current economic situation, we are honestly hoping for the best. We are definitely working on growing the brand, and even taking it corporate,” he divulged.

As for his new baby, Sibanda revealed bettering prospects for the burgeoning venture, sharing;

“We are currently working on new custom samples for clients and we are excited about that.”
